13 confirmed out of Man City v Newcastle United in Carabao Cup - plus two major doubts

Newcastle United injury news: The latest injury news affecting Eddie Howe and Pep Guardiola’s sides ahead of tonight’s Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg.

Newcastle United head to the Etihad Stadium tonight knowing they must overturn a two-goal deficit if they want to book their spot in next month’s Carabao Cup final.

Eddie Howe’s side also know they will have to do that without their captain Bruno Guimaraes who has been ruled-out of the match through injury. Guimaraes missed their 4-1 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday night and faces a race against time to be back for their clash with Brentford this weekend.

Howe will also be without five other players tonight, whilst there are doubts over Sven Botman. Pep Guardiola, meanwhile, confirmed on Tuesday that Rayan Cherki was a doubt to feature against the Magpies.

Much like their visitors, City have also been suffering with their own injury issues, particularly in defence. Here, we take a look at the latest injury news affecting both camps ahead of Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup clash with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City injury news v Newcastle United

Josko Gvardiol - out

A bad ankle injury is set to keep Gvardiol sidelined for a number of months. The Croatian international faces a race against time to be back fit ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

John Stones - out

Stones hasn’t featured for Manchester City since their dramatic 5-4 win over Fulham at the beginning of December. A thigh injury will keep him out of action against the Magpies tonight.

Mateo Kovacic - out

Kovacic will miss the second-leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals with an ankle injury.

Savinho - out

A thigh injury has kept Savinho out of action since New Year’s Day. He is not expected to feature tonight.

Ruben Dias - out

Dias suffered a hamstring injury in the final few minutes of Manchester City’s draw with Chelsea last month. The Portuguese international has returned to training but is not likely to feature at the Etihad Stadium tonight.

Marc Guehi - out

Unlike Antoine Semeny, Guehi joined City too late to be involved in tonight’s game. EFL rules mean that the former Crystal Palace defender is not eligible to feature against the Magpies.

Jeremy Doku - out

Guardiola confirmed that Doku wouldn’t feature against the Magpies tonight. The Belgian has not trained with his teammates since picking up an injury.

Rayan Cherki - doubt

Cherki picked up a knock during City’s draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday and is a doubt to feature tonight.

Newcastle United injury news v Manchester City

Fabian Schar - out

Schar suffered an ankle ligament injury against Leeds United last month and has been ruled-out of action for the foreseeable future.

Emil Krafth - out

Krafth will not feature against Manchester City in the second-leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

Tino Livramento - out

Livramento suffered a hamstring injury last month and Howe revealed last week that the defender would be out for another five or six weeks, with a return date in March expected to the England international.

Joelinton - out

Joelinton has been ruled out of action for the foreseeable future with a groin injury. Howe confirmed that the Brazilian would be out for ‘weeks rather than months’. He won’t feature against Manchester City.

Lewis Miley - out

Miley was an unused substitute at Anfield at the weekend, with Howe revealing he had picked up an injury that was enough to sideline him. The Magpies head coach has since ruled him out of featuring against the Citizens.

Bruno Guimaraes - out

Guimaraes continues to be sidelined by an ankle injury he picked up against PSV Eindhoven last week. Howe has been coy about an exact return date for the Brazilian, but he is not expected to feature tonight.

Sven Botman - doubt

Botman missed Saturday’s defeat to Liverpool through injury, with Howe unwilling to risk the Dutch international at Anfield. He has returned to training and there is a chance he could feature tonight.
