'I mean': Jamie Redknapp says Liam Rosenior is playing Chelsea's best player in the wrong position

Liam Rosenior is taking a lot of negative press at Chelsea, despite his side actually putting in a good performance.

Chelsea find themselves out of the Carabao Cup, which is a disappointment. But it does allow them to focus on a bigger push in the Champions League, and a top-five place is still up for grabs in the Premier League, which could be enough for Europe’s elite competition again.

However, games are still coming thick and fast for Liam Rosenior. It’s Wolves up next in the Premier League, followed by Leeds United and then Hull City in the FA Cup after that, all in the space of a week.

It’s a period that will allow for some more experimenting for Rosenior, but he’ll want to settle on a team and style soon, as every game seems to be a surprise at the moment.

And there’s one player he may want to focus a little bit more on.

Is Liam Delap not good enough for Chelsea or are we not playing to his strengths?🤔

Jamie Redknapp wants to see Cole Palmer higher up

Cole Palmer was a substitute for Chelsea’s clash with Arsenal, as Rosenior planned to use him as an impact player off the bench.

However, he had very little influence when he did come into proceedings.

This is something that Jamie Redknapp noticed when speaking on Sky Sports.

“I mean, Cole Palmer, he was so deep and he was playing a couple of neat passes, but I never felt like the threatening Cole Palmer, like he was 10 yards up further up the pitch. He played in your position, Paul, did you ever feel that Cole Palmer was going to make or score a goal tonight?”

Did Rosenior get his tactics wrong against Arteta? 🤔

Hindsight is a wonderful thing…

Cole Palmer’s stats against Arsenal

Palmer failed to make a successful dribble, didn’t have a shot on target, had 25 touches, and made 18 of 20 passes, created one chance, and lost both his duels against Arsenal (FotMob).

This came in 30 minutes of action, with Palmer averaging less than a touch per minute, which isn’t great for a player who needs to be the vocal point in Rosenior’s side.

Redknapp does have a point. When Cole Palmer is at his best, he’s influencing things, getting shots off and drawing defenders in, but he played more of an Enzo Fernandez role.

Perhaps Rosenior needs to start being a little bit braver moving forward.
