'The best football brain I've seen': John Terry predicts manager to eventually take over at Chelsea or Arsenal

Liam Rosenior has only just got his foot in the door at Chelsea and despite last night’s defeat, the Blues boss has impressed with six wins in eight matches – losing only to Arsenal, twice.

There has been plenty of criticism for the way Rosenior approached the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg, attempting to nullify Arsenal and then score with Cole Palmer brought on in the second half.

With hindsight, it didn’t work, but had Chelsea scored, many would have been calling Rosenior a genius. Steven Gerrard said Rosenior has got his tactics “spot on” so far, but Rosenior still has plenty of critics.

Did Rosenior get his tactics wrong against Arteta? 🤔

Hindsight is a wonderful thing…

The lifespan of a Chelsea manager isn’t long, just ask Graham Potter or even Enzo Maresca, who lasted 18 months in the job. John Terry reckons he’s identified a manager who could take over at Chelsea one day.

John Terry backs manager to take over at Chelsea or Arsenal

Chelsea legend Terry has been partaking in the rapidly growing Icon Series of late, helping England beat a Rest of the World side that included the likes of Gareth Bale, Gianfranco Zola, Gabriel Batistuta and more.

Terry was asked to pick an all-time Chelsea and Arsenal XI, choosing between an Arsenal and a Chelsea player for each position. He had to choose Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas or the Chelsea version of Fabregas.

Picking the Arsenal version, he predicted Fabregas to one day manage either Chelsea or Arsenal on the Icon Series TikTok, with Fabregas currently shining as manager of Como in Italy’s top-tier, Serie A.

“The Fabregas of Arsenal because of the time he spent there. But that year I played with him and we won the league under Conte, honestly, I think he’s got the best football brain I’ve been around and seen.

“The way he understands football, and there’s no coincidence why he’s doing so well at Como. I think he’s going to be a top, top manager and one day, he manages a Chelsea or an Arsenal at the top level.”

Cesc Fabregas’ stunning form in charge of Como so far

Fabregas ended his career with Como in the 2022-23 season, before becoming the club’s U19 manager. He would then take over on an interim basis in November 2023, but did not have his UEFA license.

It limited him to just a month in charge, but after Como were promoted to Serie A in 2024, Fabregas was appointed gaffer and signed a four-year deal. Since then, Como have gone from strength to strength.

Como currently sit in sixth place this season, after finishing 10th last term. The ambitious Italian side look likely to qualify for Europe, with Como sitting five points ahead of seventh in the Conference League spot.

Despite only being in Serie A for a year and a half, Fabregas has guided Como to 27 wins in 64 games and a win ratio of 43%. In terms of young, up-and-coming managers, he and Rosenior are right up there.
