It has been a difficult few days for Virgil van Dijk in terms of speaking to the media. The Liverpool skipper was forced to answer questions on criticism this past week and whether Arne Slot has been disrespected.
The Reds skipper has had to continue to try and rally the side amid an inconsistent run, and plenty of criticism was aimed at the 34-year-old in the aftermath of the 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth.
However, judging from his Instagram activity, it’s not been too bad. In fact, the Dutchman recently shared a training snap that caught the attention of one of football’s most beloved legends.
Van Dijk posted an image of himself working out in the gym while wearing a vintage Brazil No.10 shirt with ‘Ronaldinho’ emblazoned across the back.
Ronaldinho himself replied to the Liverpool man, writing that he would see him soon on Merseyside:
“Thanks for the love brother, see you soon in Liverpool!”
The Barcelona and AC Milan legend is Van Dijk’s idol, with the Reds skipper saying to Gary Neville and the Overlap:
“Ronaldinho, just the way he was. I think in the second season after he joined Barcelona he was the difference maker. He was the one everyone was looking to see; his goals, the tricks, the flair. He was at that point the best player in the world, he definitely inspired me; even in different ways because I’m not a striker of course.”
