John Terry’s wounded reaction to Liam Rosenior’s tactics as Chelsea beaten in EFL Cup by Arsenal

Liam Rosenior had some questions to answer after his Chelsea side were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Arsenal in the semi-finals.

Rosenior set up an extremely defensive side that included five defenders and no recognised wide attackers in an attempt to nullify the threat of the league leaders.

This included the bizarre decision to start Liam Delap on the wing, a position he clearly looked uncomfortable in.

Did Rosenior get his tactics wrong against Arteta? 🤔

Hindsight is a wonderful thing…

The Blues were unable to get the job done when Cole Palmer and Estevao Willian came on in the second half, and Chelsea were dumped out of the competition at the semi-final stage.

John Terry disappointed at Liam Rosenior’s tactics vs Arsenal

Club legend John Terry is more than aware what it takes to win this competition. He captained his side to glory three times in the League Cup.

He took to TikTok to state that while he didn’t hate the performance, he was aware Chelsea didn’t look like scoring with the gameplan Rosenior carried out.

He said: “That’s the end of our cup run. Not a bad performance from us, but didn’t really look like scoring all night to be honest, and Arsenal have done what they needed to do tonight.”

Paul Merson was stunned at Rosenior’s tactics, believing the Chelsea players simply didn’t give the turnaround victory a go.

Terry’s overall thoughts on Liam Rosenior

Terry has become a diehard fan of the club since joining as a youngster, and has seen an incredible amount of managers come and go.

Overall, Terry has demanded more from Rosenior during his time in charge. This is despite winning six of his first eight games in charge.

There will be some who point out that the Blues will have expected to win many of those games, but the nature of the comebacks against Napoli and West Ham are worth praising.

Rosenior will ultimately be judged on how he does in the Premier League, and he will be back in action in that competition on Saturday against Wolves.
