Key issue in Raptors-Kings trade for Domantas Sabonis revealed

Domantas Sabonis could be traded to the Toronto Raptors in a deal involving RJ Barrett, but the key issue preventing the trade is draft compensation, as the Kings are demanding a first-round pick that the Raptors have yet to offer.

After an unfortunate meniscus injury, Domantas Sabonis is healthy and back on the court.

Sacramento Kings / Schedule

Playing 18 games for the struggling Sacramento Kings, Sabonis has averaged 30 minutes per game, and with those minutes, 15.4 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists.

Ahead of the trade deadline, the Lithuanian center might be on the move.

As Chris Haynes reveals, talks between the Kings and the Toronto Raptors are well underway.

"Conversations for Domantas Sabonis between the Kings and the Raptors have lasted over a month. There is potential for this deal," Haynes started.

"The deal would be structured around Domantas Sabonis; it would include RJ Barrett and some other players as fillers to make the trade work."

However, the draft compensation remains the biggest obstacle.

The Kings insist on a first-round selection, something that the Raptors would like to avoid.

"From what I hear, the Raptors want to include multiple second-round picks in the package. The Kings want a first-round selection."

"As it stands now, if a first-round selection is not included, the deal will be off," Haynes concluded.
