Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe trained with a youthful-looking squad on the eve of the big clash with Manchester City.

The head coach called up EIGHT youngsters to Benton with Leo Shahar, Aidan Harris, Miodrag Pivas, Scott Bailey, Mason Miley, Baran Yildiz, Park Seung-Soo and Dylan Charlton all involved as the build-up to the encounter at the Etihad Stadium continued. Whether Howe includes any of the promising youngsters in his squad for tonight's important game remains to be seen.

But Howe can't be accused of not giving the kids a chance to impress and on the back of Lewis Miley's success story and rise from the youth ranks, this can be deemed a positive advert for the club's Academy.

A Newcastle statement read: "United have been hard at work preparing for the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg with Manchester City.

"The Magpies head into the reverse fixture needing to overcome a 2-0 deficit after tasting defeat at St. James' Park last month.

"Eddie Howe's side have been navigating a busy run of testing fixtures since, meaning time on the training pitch has been limited.

"However, the United boss had his senior stars at Benton earlier this week in preparation for the trip to the Etihad Stadium.

"The likes of Nick Woltemade, Yoane Wissa, Jacob Murphy, Sven Botman, Aaron Ramsdale and Alex Murphy were among the first-team players in action, while a number of youngsters were also called up.

"Leo Shahar, Aidan Harris, Miodrag Pivas, Scott Bailey, Mason Miley, Baran Yildiz, Park Seung-Soo and Dylan Charlton were all involved from the under-21s, earning the chance to impress in front of Howe and his staff."

The younger brother of Miley is a midfielder who has put in good performances in the second string this season. While Pivas is a centre-back who can offer some cover to the first-team ranks.

Turkish teenager Yildiz signed from Genclerbirligi last winter and has made just a handful of appearances for the reserves. The likes of Seung-Soo, Shahar and Harris have all been in and around the first-team base before.
