Wolves return to Premier League action this weekend with a home clash against Chelsea

Wolves take on Chelsea at Molineux on Saturday afternoon. They were beaten 2-0 on their own patch by AFC Bournemouth last time out. The Midlands outfit remain rock bottom of the Premier League table after 24 fixtures.

They have won only once this season and look well on their way to the Championship. Rob Edwards’ side are inside the bottom three along with Burnley and West Ham. They are a hefty 18 points from safety behind Nottingham Forest in 17th.

Chelsea injury worry ahead of Wolves trip

Chelsea have a few injury issues to deal with as they prepare to take on Wolves. They lost 1-0 in their Carabao Cup second leg clash against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night and have missed out on a trip to Wembley. Winger Estevao could only make the bench against the Gunners and their boss Liam Rosenior has said: “Estevao, I have to say, for him at 18 years old to go through something very personal for him, to fly to Brazil and to fly back in two days, to make sure he could play in this game, that says everything about the character and spirit I want for this team.”

Meanwhile, Cole Palmer was also among the substitutes as well with his head coach sharing this update: “And Cole. Cole gave us an incredible 90-minute performance at the weekend when we fought back against West Ham. He’s a gem, we have to take care of him and make sure he’s ready for the whole of the season. But when he came on, his moments were top. So all in all we're disappointed not to go through, albeit against a very good team, but we can’t let this set-back affect our future.”

Elsewhere, Pedro Neto and Reece James missed out altogether against Arsenal. They face a race against time to be able to feature against Wolves. Rosenior has said: “Pedro and Reece have small knocks. They were just in too much pain for tonight. They are giving everything, they would always put their hand up to play. Reece is an incredible captain and leader, Pedro’s an outstanding professional and player.”

What transfer business did Wolves do in January?

Wolves will need to be at their best if they are to get anything against Chelsea. Their upcoming opponents have seen an upturn in form since Rosenior took over. He was picked as their replacement for Enzo Maresca earlier this winter and has adapted well so far to life at Stamford Bridge.

Edwards has boosted his attacking department with the addition of Adam Armstrong from Southampton. He will give his new team more competition and depth at the top end of the pitch. In addition, he is quick and has proved he can score goals at the top level in the past.

Angel Gomes has also arrived on loan from Marseille. He will provide Wolves with another option to pick from in the middle of the park. The ex-Manchester United player will battle it out with the likes of Joao Gomes and Andre for a place in the starting XI.
