It’s only surprising in the sense that we rarely see Hornets players invited to these sorts of things. We didn’t even get to see Seth Curry compete last season despite him leading the NBA in 3-point percentage. The last Hornet to participate in this even was Devonte’ Graham back in 2020. Props to you if you remembered that.

Knueppel is more than deserving of the invitation. He’s currently on pace to shatter the rookie record for 3-pointers made. That record is 206. Kon sits just 40 made threes behind that record with 31 games to play. At the rate he’s canning triples, he’ll break that record in early March. He’s on pace to make 269 if he plays every game the rest of the season.

But he’s not only putting up tremendous 3-point production for a rookie. He’s already an elite NBA 3-point shooter, full stop. Rookie and veterans included. He’s third in the entire league for total 3-pointers made, just nine off the leaders Donovan Mitchell and Stephen Curry. He’s ninth in 3-pointers made per game, and he’s doing so at a 42.3% clip. It’s truly elite production by every measure.

It’ll be interesting to see how Kon does within the confines of the 3-point shooting contest. He seems to have no shortage of confidence, so that will definitely help him once he gets rolling. He also has a very quick, compact, repeatable release that should lend itself well to the rapid fire nature of the contest. Everything has been coming up Kon this season. Why not just win the 3-point shootout while he’s at it?
