KAT had another big night against Alex Sarr, with 19 pts, 15 rebounds, 2 steals and a +30 in 26 minutes. Photo courtesy NY Knicks.
If you turned on the game at 7:30 pm instead of its 7pm start time, you’d see the Knicks already up by 18 points.
And they romped from there, for a 132-101 crushing, wire-to-wire win over the Wizards in Washington, DC on a Tuesday night.
Mikal Bridges led the way by barely missing a shot — scoring 23 pts on 8-10 shooting (4-5 from 3). Karl-Anthony Towns Dominated Alex Sarr again, this time 19 pts on 7-16 shooting with 15 rebounds and a +30 in only 26 minutes. Jalen Brunson scored 21 pts and was named Defensive Player of the Game for NY.
OG Anunoby added 19 pts and the bench, led by Landry Shamet with 14 pts, shot lights out as well. Mitchell Robinson was given the night off due to a back-to-back game vs Denver coming up, so Ariel Hukporti filled in with 12 pts (on 4-5 shooting), 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks in 22 minutes.
Mohammed Diawara started the game on fire, then went down with an ankle sprain. Josh Hart sprained his ankle later on and only played 22 minutes (with 7 rebounds and 7 assists). Both were reported to leave the arena walking well without a boot on.
“You have to start off strong, and just play hard,” said Mikal Bridges afterwards about the Knick energy going in. “And they’re young, and they can score and get out and run; we just had to play our way.”
NY has now won 7 in a row and improves to 32-18. Washington falls to 13-36. The Knicks own the Wizards 1st-rd pick this June but it is top-8 protected — so it behooved Washington to lose this game and lose as many games as they can this year.
1. Knicks Jump Out to 18-Pt Lead
The Knicks came out with Defensive energy, and scored at will — Jalen Brunson hitting a drive, OG Anunoby hitting a 3, and Mikal Bridges scoring on a drive for a 7-0 Knick lead just like that.

2. Diawara Great — then Sprains Ankle
NY was up 21-7 with 6 minutes left in the 1st quarter when Mohamed Diawara came in with the 2nd team. And Diawara wowed the Knick audience in DC and at home on tv and Twitter with dynamic plays offensively and defensively.

Diawara’s ascendance has caused Jordan Clarkson to be replaced in the rotation — as Diawara is taller at 6’8, a better defender, and slick with the ball.

But then just like that 4 minutes later, Diawara sprained his ankle badly under the basket and was out for the rest of the game. And in came Jordan Clarkson.

3. Knicks Lead by 25 at Half, 72-47
KAT has Dominated Alex Sarr in every previous matchup, and he took it to the #2 pick in the 2024 draft from the start, taking it to the bucket for scores, and dominating the defensive boards.

4. Knicks Go Up by 32 Pts in 3rd
The Knicks continued to pour it on in the 3rd — it was like men against boys vs the inexperienced Wizards. Mikal Bridges continued to score with efficiency.

5. Knicks Go Up by 40 Pts in 4th
Tyler Kolek came in to orchestrate to start the 4th quarter, and played a heady ball as usual. NY ran the lead to 40 pts.
Trae Young was in street clothes on the Washington bench — and got into it with the many Knick fans in attendance, who booed him vociferously.

Jalen Brunson was a key player in the big early lead the Knicks got, and drew 2 offensive charges underneath the basket — causing coach Mike Brown to award him with the Knicks’ Defensive Player of the Game Award afterwards. Brunson now lead the league in offensive charges drawn.
In the 4th quarter, Brunson got resounding MVP chants from the large Knick contingent in attendance at the Capital One Arena in DC.
