The Detroit Pistons completed a three-team trade that sent Jaden Ivey to the Chicago Bulls while bringing back wing Kevin Huerter and big man Dario Saric on Tuesday.
Given the Pistons were already at the 15-player roster limit before the deal, they needed to clear a roster spot to bring in both players. Detroit has now done so, waiving center Isaac Jones after making just one appearance with the team, according to a report from Spotrac’s Keith Smith.
Jones, 25, was a late add to the Detroit roster, being claimed off waivers in November after being waived by the Sacramento Kings a handful of games into the 2025-26 season.
Initially a two-way player for the Kings out of Washington State, Jones earned his way to a standard contract after exceeding expectations in his first season.
But the Kings moved on after Jones played three games this season. The Pistons swooped in and filled their final roster spot with him on Nov. 6 to add some front court depth.
Jones played just over a minute in his lone appearance this season against the Indiana Pacers on Nov. 17 after the game was already in hand. He scored two points off a pair of shots.
He’s spent most of the season with Detroit’s G League affiliate, the Motor City Cruise, where he’s played 15 games averaging 16.2 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.5 blocker per game.
This might not be the only player the Pistons have to waive in the near future as two-way guard Daniss Jenkins is supposedly going to be moved to a standard contract after he hits the 50-game mark under his current contract.
After a two-way player has spent 50 games active with their NBA team, they need to be moved to a standard contract in order to be available for them and for the postseason.
Coach J.B. Bickerstaff has indicated that will be the case and Jenkins will reach 50 games on Thursday when the Pistons face the Washington Wizards. The Pistons will either need to waive another player or complete another trade to open up a roster spot for their rising guard.
