Liverpool’s data team have come to an exciting conclusion about Jeremy Jacquet - journalist

Jeremy Jacquet will become a Liverpool player on July 1 following a £60m move from Rennes.

The Reds ended the transfer window without making a single senior signing for 2025/26.

Jamie Carragher thinks another defender should have been signed alongside Jacquet.

But Arne Slot will have to make do with just three central defenders for the remainder of the campaign.

Jacquet is exciting ex-Liverpool players, though, and there are already big expectations on the 20-year-old ahead of his move to England.

What Liverpool’s data team are saying about Jeremy Jacquet

Jacquet featured against Marseille on Tuesday evening as Rennes lost 3-0 in the French Cup.

It was not the best display from the centre-back, but that’s unlikely to worry Liverpool based on the data they have collected on the stopper.

Speaking to talkSPORT, journalist James Pearce shared that the Reds now think their latest signing is one of the most gifted young centre-backs in European football.

He said: “All the data that Liverpool obviously rely heavily on when it comes to recruitment pointed out that he was fast being regarded as one of the most gifted young centre-backs in European football”

Jeremy Jacquet’s transfer value

While Liverpool are clearly high on the young defender, one French pundit seemed to suggest that the Reds paid too much for Jacquet.

As mentioned, he is arriving later this year for a fee of £55m plus £5m in add-ons.

That will make Jacquet the second-most expensive centre-back in Liverpool’s history behind Virgil van Dijk.

However, several sources suggest that the Rennes ace’s transfer value is lower.

CIES Football Observatory give Jacquet a ‘fair price’ of €25-29m, while Transmarket give the player a market value of €20m.

In reality, the value of the player is irrelevant as long as he can perform on the pitch when he joins.

And perhaps most importantly, Liverpool can still ‘go big’ in the summer transfer window despite their recent outlay on Jacquet and other big names last year.
