Giannis Antetokounmpo expected to be out when Pelicans play Bucks in Milwaukee

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Giannis Antetokounmpo will not play with the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night against the New Orleans Pelicans due to a calf strain injury.

The game is likely his last as a member of the Bucks organization as the superstar forward is anticipated to be traded before Thursday’s (Feb. 5) 2 p.m. CT deadline.

Antetokounmpo has made a formal request to be moved, according to reports. ESPN reports Miami, Golden State, New York, and Minnesota are expected to be suitors for the two-time MVP.

Moving Antetokounmpo’s super-max contract will likely require multiple teams to act as facilitators in any potential deal.

The Pelicans and Portland Trail Blazers are two teams being monitored as potential facilitators for an Antetokounmpo trade. New Orleans owns Milwaukee’s 2027 first-round pick via an unprotected swap, while Portland owns swaps in 2028 and 2030, along with an unprotected 2029 first-round pick.

Coverage for tonight’s game will begin on the Gulf Coast Sports and Entertainment Network at 6:30 p.m.
