"LeBron James will be a free agent this summer, and if he chooses to play a 24th NBA season, sources close to him said Cleveland would be an obvious destination," The Athletic reported.

"His salary would not be close to the $52.6 million he's earning now in Los Angeles, but at age 41, he is aware of the market realities facing him if he extends his career."

James and the Los Angeles Lakers are expected to part ways after this season. That sentiment is shared by both sides, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer.

The Lakers are set to prioritize building around Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves as the team's new centerpieces. The roster has already been shaped with Luka in mind for the 2025-26 season.

LeBron is currently playing on an expiring $52.6 million contract and will become a free agent this summer.

James started his legendary career in Cleveland in 2003 and played there until 2010. After four years with the Miami Heat, LeBron returned to the Cavs and guided them to the 2016 NBA championship.
