Earlier this season, the Los Angeles Clippers and Chris Paul had a messy divorce. The legendary point guard returned to LA this offseason for a reunion with his former team. However, Paul was sent away from the team after a few months due to his clashes with the team. Since then, Paul has not set foot in the NBA.
That seemingly has not dissuaded teams from being interested in the point guard, to some extent. Insider Ramona Shelburne says that one team in particular, the Dallas Mavericks, makes sense as a destination for Chris Paul. However, Dallas will likely have to wait until Paul is waived, as the Clippers are still struggling to find a trade partner for Paul.
“I think the Dallas Mavericks make a lot of sense,” Shelburne said on ESPN LA's radio show. “He worked out with Cooper Flagg in the off-season, they’re represented by the same agency, I think Cooper likes him.”

Paul famously spent a good portion of his career with the Los Angeles Clippers. After being traded there from the New Orleans Hornets, the star point guard became the leader of the “Lob City Clippers”. Paul thrived in LA, leading one of the most exciting offenses in the league by dominating in the pick-and-roll and using his floor general skills to set his teammates up.
After a tour around the league that saw him make stops in Houston, Oklahoma City, Phoenix, San Antonio, and Golden State, Paul returned to LA on a one-year deal. Unfortunately, the point guard reportedly clashed with players and coach Tyronn Lue in the middle of the season. The Clippers eventually announced that Paul will be away from the team, bringing a bitter end to a once-thriving relationship.
While Paul has been away from the team, the Clippers have not released the point guard since their announcement. However, LA is reportedly struggling to find a new home for its former star. Should the trade deadline lapse without a Paul trade, the point guard will likely get cut to be free to find a new team for the season.
