Why Mavericks don't want to trade with Lakers

The Mavericks are unwilling to trade with the Lakers because the relationship between the two teams remains strained following last season's Luka Doncic trade.

The Dallas Mavericks appear unlikely to engage in any trade discussions with the Los Angeles Lakers in the near future, according to Dan Woike of The Athletic.

"Naji Marshall has also generated interest around the Lakers, though the pathways to any deal with the Dallas Mavericks after the Luka Doncic trade last season have gigantic 'road closed' signs all over them," Woike reported. "The same is probably true for Daniel Gafford."

Marshall has been on the Lakers' radar as they continue searching for a reliable 3-and-D wing. However, Los Angeles lacks attractive trade assets, making any potential deal difficult to execute.

Klay Thompson has also been loosely connected to the Lakers. The four-time NBA champion and five-time All-Star is another name of interest, but as things stand, a realistic path to acquiring him does not appear to exist.

While rival teams still describe the Lakers as "active" ahead of Thursday's trade deadline, Woike notes that the franchise's limited draft capital, shortage of valuable trade pieces, and focus on the upcoming offseason suggest any significant roster changes are more likely to happen later rather than now.
