Martin Zubimendi has rejected suggestions he would solve Real Madrid's problems if he was at the Bernabeu after the Spanish side missed out on the chance to sign him in the summer.
The Spain star had continued to impress at Real Sociedad before eventually leaving the club and joining Arsenal, who spent £60million to land his services. Zubimendi has immediately proved to be a big hit at the Emirates with the Gunners top of the Premier League.
Real meanwhile have enjoyed mixed fortunes, despite remaining in the hunt for La Liga and the Champions League, there are issues in their game plan and style. They were heavily linked with Zubimendi but ultimately didn't pursue the 27-year-old.
Some pundits have claimed Zubimendi, the type of midfielder who can sit back and dictate play, would be perfectly suited to Los Blancos given their issues, but he doesn't see it that way.
He told Cadena SER radio: "I don't think so. Real Madrid has more than enough players to do well, so no."
Zubimendi has adapted well to English football and has registered five goals and three assists in 33 games for the Gunners so far. He admits that there are additional demands in the Premier League having previously spent his entire career in his homeland with a club that were not expected to win honours.
"When you feel important and you are playing, it is truly comforting," he said. "It's true that I've adapted well to the league but I've noticed that the matches are very demanding, that everyone puts you under pressure and that the level is very high."

Zubimendi was part of a summer recruitment drive that also saw the likes of Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze arrived at the Emirates. That has given Mikel Arteta huge resources as he bids to end Arsenal's wait for a league title and also claim several other honours that are up for grabs.
Arsenal beat Chelsea to reach the Carabao Cup final on Tuesday night and Zubimendi said: "We have taken the first step but we are aware that there are three very important months ahead."
The north Londoners hold a six point lead over Manchester City in the title race, but the Spaniard claimed: "The standings are great but we will see who wins."
