Al-Hilal have allegedly struck a deal to offload former Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez to Turkish heavyweights Fenerbahce. Nunez departed Anfield last summer to join the Saudi Pro League outfit in a transfer valued at £46 million.
According to Saudi Arabian media, Fenerbahce have seen a bid accepted for the Uruguayan following Karim Benzema's arrival at Al-Hilal from rivals Al-Ittihad. Turkey's transfer window stays open until February 6th, providing the club sufficient time to complete the switch.
Fenerbahce have been hunting for a fresh striker, with Morocco international Youssef En‐Nesyri set to seal his switch to Al‐Ittihad this week. Nunez, meanwhile, is allegedly keen on a European comeback as he seeks consistent game time before this summer's World Cup.
Since his Al-Hilal move, Nunez has witnessed his market value decline, per Transfermarkt. His current worth sits at €35million (£30.6m), falling from €45 million (£39.4m). Even prior to the winter window opening, speculation had already emerged regarding a possible exit.
Fenerbahce occupy second spot in the Turkish Super Lig, trailing Galatasaray by three points, and have already booked their European play‐off berth. They're set to meet Nottingham Forest across two matches for a knockout phase place.
If a move goes through, Nunez could feature in the play-off fixtures arranged for later this month. Nunez netted 40 goals in 143 matches for Liverpool and contributed to the club's Premier League title triumph last season.
Former Reds defender Jamie Carragher once labelled him 'captain chaos', a reference to his erratic influence and his inability to nail down a regular starting berth during his three campaigns at Anfield.
He dropped down the hierarchy towards the conclusion of Jurgen Klopp's reign, and whilst a summer 2025 exit appeared progressively more probable, Arne Slot made little effort to conceal his worries about Nunez's shortcomings.

Back in February, Slot remarked: "Players miss chances - that I can accept.
"What was a bit harder for me to accept was his behaviour after that chance, and by behaviour I mean it got too much in his head, where he wasn't the usual Darwin that works his butt off and he makes sure he helps the team."
