Alexis Mac Allister's stance on moving to Spain as Real Madrid show interest

Alexis Mac Allister is under contract with Liverpool until 2028, but has been mooted for a move this week.

The Reds signed the Argentine midfielder from Brighton and Hove Albion back in 2023.

In the years since, he has made 129 appearances, scored 17 goals and provided 17 assists for the current Premier League champions.

Last month, it was reported that Mac Allister’s team have been contacted by Liverpool about a potential new contract.

But now, Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid have shown interest in the player.

Alexis Mac Allister open to playing in Spain

The Athletic have published a Real Madrid transfer piece on February 4, in which they detail interest in the Liverpool ace.

It reads: “Ancelotti asked for Alexis Mac Allister, now at Liverpool, when he was in charge. Although no deal was ever fully explored, Madrid received positive feedback from those around him. The 27-year-old is well-liked at the club, and his contract at Anfield until 2028 might make a deal more feasible, if Madrid were to make a move.”

Whether Los Blancos would push ahead with a deal this month remains to be seen, but Mac Allister’s stance on moving to Spain is already clear.

In an interview with AS in December 2024, the now 27-year-old said he was happy at Liverpool but would ‘definitely like to play in Spain one day’.

He stated: “It’s a country [Spain] I like a lot and I’ve visited it several times, and, above all, because of the language and the culture, it’s very similar to Argentina. I would definitely like to play in Spain one day.

“But right now, I’m very comfortable at Liverpool and I don’t think about what might happen in the future.”

Who could Liverpool sign to replace Alexis Mac Allister

Wayne Rooney already thinks Liverpool’s ‘big problem’ is their midfield, so losing the South American probably wouldn’t be ideal.

But there are a couple of potential options that Merseysiders could target to reinforce the centre of the pitch in the summer.

Kees Smit continues to be linked, having previously worked with Arne Slot as a youngster.

Elsewhere, Adam Wharton moving to Liverpool has been mooted, though Crystal Palace would likely need a sizeable transfer fee to part with one of their standout talents.
