Manchester City aim to complete the job and secure a trip to Wembley as the League Cup holders arrive at the Etihad Stadium. Newcastle’s grip on the trophy is in the balance after losing the first leg 2-0 to the Blues and City will be eager to finish what they started and set up a Wembley date with Arsenal.
Three weeks ago, goals by Antoine Semenyo and Rayan Cherki gave the Blues the advantage and put one foot in the final. However, Newcastle are a tough opposition and the Blues will need to be at their best if they are to give the supporters another trip to the Etihad south.
As always, our team are here to give us their views and opinions on the match. Here’s what we think this week:
Second leg, have the lead. Have to see it off. The team has to make good for Sundays draw. 2-0 repeat score and win.
City only need to hold a 2 goal advantage for 90 minutes. What could go wrong? At least the lads are at home.
City are so, so inconsistent at the moment. One thing they seem to be maintaining is playing terribly in the second half after a decent first 45 minutes.
This is effectively the second half of the tie, so based off recent results, we can expect City to crash and burn in this game. However, I do think Newcastle’s injuries and poor record at the Etihad means City will progress to the Carabao Cup final.
With a match every few days, City, I think, are starting to run out of steam. Nine matches in January and this the second this month, and it’s only the fourth, and the toll will start to show. Will it be tonight? I hope not and I think City will have enough in the tank to see this match out.
City threw away a two-goal lead to snatch a draw from the jaws of victory at Spurs to move six points behind Arsenal. It’s not unassailable and Arsenal are yet to capitulate, so we’re still in with a chance. Anyway, who cares about that? Just like buses…
Pete got another perfect score!!!!! WTH I hear you say. Yep, he predicted City would draw 2-2 and for the second weekend in a row, he was absolutely bang on. No one else came close and the weekend belonged to Pete.
