Paul Gascoigne says Chelsea had an‘incredible’ player who could’ve been a superstar like David Beckham

Chelsea have had a number of club legends pass through in the past 25 years that supporters are desperately calling for their current squad to replicate.

Blues fans have just watched their side crash out of the EFL Cup at the hands of Arsenal in a second leg where they provided very little threat to their opponents.

Liam Rosenior’s tactics came under scrutiny, as some of his best players including Cole Palmer and Estevao Willian were benched from the start.

Did Rosenior get his tactics wrong against Arteta? 🤔

Hindsight is a wonderful thing…

Those who have fond memories of the trophy-laden 2000s and 2010s at the club will often bring up the times where Frank Lampard and co were putting in match-winning performances on a regular basis.

Paul Gascoigne believes Frank Lampard could’ve reached levels of David Beckham

John Terry would put Lampard in the current Chelsea side comfortably, and he is seen as one of the best midfielders of the modern era.

He often isn’t spoken about at the level of the likes of David Beckham though, and former England midfielder Paul Gascoigne believes this was down to his ‘quiet’ personality.

He told ‘Signatures R US‘: “If he had my character, he could have been like one of the Beckhams or even more. But he was like so, not boring, but he was so quiet and timid. But, the goals he scored for Chelsea, people forget about that. Incredible.”

Despite his perceived personality, the Englishman is still seen amongst the best to ever feature in the Premier League for Chelsea.

You can choose one Chelsea legend to play in Liam Rosenior’s team today. Who are you calling? 🤔

Chelsea have their new Frank Lampard

One of the keys to Lampard’s game was the amount of goals he scored. He is Chelsea’s top scorer in history.

In their current squad, Enzo Fernandez is starting to replicate those numbers in front of goal, with those strikes coming from midfield.

Gary Cahill believes Fernandez is the new Lampard, and he is proving a crucial member of Rosenior’s first team squad.

The new manager has used him in every game so far since taking over, with that likely to continue in the next Premier League game against Wolves.
