Mavericks Trade Anthony Davis in Huge Deal with Wizards

The Dallas Mavericks are trading 10-time NBA All-Star Anthony Davis to the Washington Wizards.

[Citing unnamed sources in an X post](https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/2019119800098963674?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet), ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that the Mavericks will ship Davis, Jaden Hardy, D’Angelo Russell and Dante Exum to Washington. In exchange, the Wizards will receive Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Marvin Bagley III, two first-round picks and three second-rounders.

Shipping out the oft-injured Davis, whom the Mavericks received in trade for Luka Dončić just a year ago, Dallas firmly closed the door on the Dončić era and moved to orient its team around rookie sensation Cooper Flagg.

In the nation’s capital, the Wizards signaled years of futility and tanking may be over. Washington has now turned previous seasons’ trades of Bradley Beal and Kyle Kuzma into Trae Young, Davis and five picks. When healthy, Young and Davis are positioned to play alongside the second-overall pick from the 2024 NBA Draft, Alex Sarr.
