Liverpool must take their opportunity to sign this key transfer target ahead of next season

Fans will need to bide their time before they can catch the first glimpse of Jacquet in action though. The 20-year-old will see out this season with current club Rennes and link-up with his new teammates in the summer.

With Virgil van Dijk turning 35 in July and Ibrahima Konate expected to leave when his contract expires, Liverpool have made it a priority to bolster their backline. While the Reds do need defensive reinforcements now, knowing Jacquet is on his way is a comforting thought.

After this rollercoaster season, Liverpool are expected to invest significantly in the summer for the second time running.

Liverpool could have clear-cut window to sign Adam Wharton

There are a few areas in need of some support this summer and while new defenders are a must, Liverpool are also interested in stacking up their midfield.

Adam Wharton remains a key name linked with a potential move to Anfield this summer. After losing out on Marc Guehi, they cannot afford to be muscled out of the frame for another target who they seem to stand a good chance of signing.

Reports recently suggested that Liverpool are feeling confident about signing Wharton this summer, and they cannot let that momentum falter.

Oliver Glasner has confirmed he will leave Crystal Palace when his contract expires this summer. This could be the perfect opening for Wharton to explore his link with Liverpool.

Many Palace players will likely feel loyal to Glasner after the success they have experienced together but his departure will mark the start of a new era at Selhurst Park, which could could trigger a domino effect in players exits.

Liverpool must plan for the present as well as the future

Liverpool signing Jacquet is a clear statement for their future. At just 20 years of age, the centre-back already has a good amount of senior minutes under his belt. This will be valuable at Liverpool but he is still a young player who may not be immediately relied on as a regular starter.

The Reds need senior players who can break into the starting line-up right away with confidence and experience. Wharton would undoubtedly push for a regular spot in the Liverpool XI and given the amount he has been valued at, you’d expect as much too.

Last week, Fichajes reported that Liverpool are considering tabling an offer close to €100 million (£86m) in attempt to sign Wharton in the summer. Their willing to spend such a high amount suggests he will become a key part of Liverpool’s plan and he will be a readymade starter for next season’s trophy chasing.
