The Toronto Raptors traded for Chris Paul.
Man, it seemed so cool, for about 10 seconds.
ESPN's Shams Charania reported the deal on Wednesday afternoon, with Ochai Agbaji going to the Brooklyn Nets to help the Raptors' salary cap situation, and the Clippers simply getting Paul off their team after he hadn't played for them in two months.
Fun for Toronto, right? A Hall of Fame point guard coming to town!

Well, not so fast.
Charania then reported this on X:
"The Raptors will not require Chris Paul to report to the team and could still discuss trades involving him over the next day. Toronto is now out of the tax. Brooklyn picks up an asset and cash to cover Agbaji's salary. The Clippers clear a roster spot and save $7 million in tax."
That's no fun.
Clearly, it's just a money move for Toronto. The Raptors are out of the luxury tax.
Paul was used to facilitate that, and it seems likely he'll either get traded or waived.

He certainly isn't the player he once was, and he was only playing reserve minutes for the Clippers even before they sent him away from the team.
Fans of CP3 are hoping his NBA career doesn't just end in this weird silent roster movement and no time on the court.
It'd be much more fun if one more roster move could send Paul toward a destination that actually wants to give him a few more minutes before his Hall of Fame career is done.
