The Charlotte Hornets have joined the NBA trade deadline mix, completing a deal with the Chicago Bulls to acquire Coby White and Mike Conley in exchange for Collin Sexton, Ousmane Dieng, and three second-round draft picks, ESPN's Shams Charania reported.
Chicago had started to acquire too many guards after trading for Anfernee Simons with the Boston Celtics, and decided to choose White's expiring deal and send him to Charlotte.
With further decisions, the Hornets are going to have to make another decision on Mike Conley. The veteran could potentially make his way back to the Minnesota Timberwolves after being traded from the team just one day ago.
Mike Conley is eligible for contract buyout, has a chance at rejoining Timberwolves
After the deal between the Bulls and Hornets went down, NBA insider Dane Moore reported that Mike Conley is eligible for a contract buyout and can sign with the Timberwolves if this takes place.
A buyout is "being considered," Moore added.
Conley's opportunity to rejoin the team that had just traded him a day ago is possible because he was traded for a second time this season.
Although the 38-year-old's production has significantly dropped this season, Conley is viewed as a veteran who brings leadership traits that are valuable for a championship contender.
In 44 games this season, Conley averages 4.4 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game.
From the Hornets' perspective, the roster is now very guard-heavy with the newly-acquired Coby White and Mike Conley, as well as LaMelo Ball, Kon Knueppel, Sion James, and others.
