After our 2-0 win last month at St James’ Park, Marmoush got us off to the perfect start at the Etihad Stadium, deflecting Dan Burn’s sliding tackle into the net.

The Egyptian made it two shortly after with a simple header from close-range and Tijjani Reijnders swept in a magnificent third before the break.

Anthony Elanga pulled one goal back for the visitors, but we cruised into the final and Marmoush was especially impressed with the team’s positive attitude and approach to the game.

“For sure, from the first minute of the game we were very focused,” said Marmoush in an interview with City Studios after the game.

“We showed our mentality and our passion to win the game. We’re very happy that we did that.

“I’m very, very excited. It’s the best feeling to reach a final. We would like to reach every final we can reach.

“We’re very happy to be there.

“Now focus on the next games and hopefully we can win the final.”

Marmoush also touched on his influential personal contribution to the victory and looked ahead to next month’s showpiece final at Wembley against Arsenal.
