Anthony Davis reportedly traded to Wizards by Mavericks

Fans of the Dallas Mavericks will have one fewer reason to remember the despised trade that sent beloved star player Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in February 2025.

Veteran forward Anthony Davis, who had been acquired by the Mavericks as part of the 2025 trade, is on his way to the Washington Wizards as part of an eight-player transaction, according to multiple reports.

The Dallas-Washington trade is being reported as follows:

– Washington sends Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, and Marvin Bagley III to Dallas, plus two first-round draft picks and three second-round selections.

– Dallas sends Davis, Jaden Hardy, D’Angelo Russell, and Dante Exum to Washington.

Mavs-Lakers trade criticized

The 2025 Mavericks-Lakers trade was heavily criticized because former Dallas general manager Nico Harrison — who was fired in November — dealt away Doncic, a player in his prime, for Davis, an aging, injury-prone veteran.

Davis has not played in an NBA game since Jan. 8. when he sustained ligament damage in his left hand. Surgery on the hand was a possibility, but it was decided to let the injury heal on its own.

In January, the Wizards also acquired another star player, guard Trae Young, in a deal with the Atlanta Hawks. However, Young, like Davis, is out of action, reportedly because of a sprained right knee and bruised quadriceps.

The Dallas-Washington transaction was one of many Wednesday, one day before the NBA trade deadline (Thurs. Feb. 5, 3 p.m.)

Reported deals include:

The Oklahoma City Thunder adding second-year guard Jared McCain from the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for a 2026 first-round draft pick and three other future second-round draft picks.

The Cleveland Cavaliers sending guard Lonzo Ball to the Utah Jazz in a three-team deal, which also will send centre Jock Landale from the Jazz to the Atlanta Hawks.

The Charlotte Hornets will bring in guards Coby White and Mike Conley Jr. from the Chicago Bulls, who will get guard Collin Sexton, forward Ousmane Dieng (coming from the Oklahoma City Thunder) and three future second-round picks. Oklahoma City will add Mason Plumlee from Charlotte.
