Pep Guardiola’s side came into the game with a healthy 2-0 advantage following last month’s first leg victory at St James’ Park, where Antoine Semenyo opened the scoring on 52 minutes and Rayan Cherki added a second deep into added time as the Blues showed magnificent resilience in defence.
We also came into the encounter having won 10 of our last 11 home games in the League Cup, whilst Newcastle were looking to become just the second team to overturn a 2+ goal deficit from the first leg to reach the League Cup final.
