Former Kansas Jayhawks basketball guard and 2022 NCAA champion Ochai Agbaji has been traded from the Toronto Raptors to the Brooklyn Nets, ESPN reported on Wednesday.
Agbaji, who turns 26 in April, will be playing for the third team in his four-year NBA career.
In a transaction involving the Nets, Raptors and Los Angeles Clippers, the Nets acquired 6-foot-5 Oak Park High graduate Agbaji and a 2032 second round pick from Toronto, plus $3.5 million in cash considerations from the Clippers.
The Nets traded to the Clippers the draft rights to Vanja Markinovic, a 29-year-old guard from Serbia whom the Nets acquired in a 2023 Kevin Durant trade with the Phoenix Suns. Also, Toronto obtained Chris Paul from the Clippers.
According to netsdaily.com, Paul is expected to be waived, freeing him to sign with any team other than the Clippers.
In Brooklyn, meanwhile, Agbaji will be reunited with Jalen Wilson, another starter on KU’s 2022 NCAA title team. Wilson, after starting 23 games a year ago, has averaged a career-low 14.5 minutes per contest (no starts) with Brooklyn. He has averaged 5.5 points per game.
Agbaji was a teammate of former KU wing Gradey Dick in Toronto. Dick, from Wichita, has averaged 16.2 minutes per game in 51 games (one start) this season. He has averaged 6.5 points and 2.2 rebounds per outing.
Agbaji, who is making $6.4 million this season, will be an unrestricted free agent once the season ends.
