Wizards to commit extension with new star after Anthony Davis deal

The Wizards are motivated to sign Trae Young to an extension after this season.

Following the Anthony Davis blockbuster trade, the Washington Wizards are determined to keep everything going with Trae Young.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Wizards intended to land the Davis trade in order to show Young that they are steadfast about competing. As such, the franchise is looking to secure a potential extension with the star guard after this season.

"Among Washington's motivations for making the deal, I'm told, was showing newly acquired Trae Young that they are serious about being a playoff team next season. The Wizards want to hash out a contract extension with Young in the offseason," Stein wrote.

"Young, 27, also has the option of playing out the 2026-27 season on a player option valued at near $50 million."
