What's next for Kyrie Irving? Latest Mavs update after Anthony Davis trade

Despite Davis' trade exit, Irving is still being regarded positively within the Mavs.

As the opportunity finally presented itself, the Dallas Mavericks didn't think twice to pull the trigger and part ways with Anthony Davis.

As reported earlier, the Mavs have officially sent Davis to the Washington Wizards, securing a significant haul that will help them prepare for their future with Cooper Flagg as the centerpiece.

As their long and disappointing saga with Davis has finally reached the end, many are now wondering what might happen next with Kyrie Irving.

Ultimately, Grant Afseth of the Dallas Hoops Journal reported that Dallas still sees the star guard as a key piece moving forward and is intrigued about the potential of his pairing with Flagg.

"The Dallas Mavericks’ decision to trade Anthony Davis marked a decisive step toward resetting both their roster and financial structure, but league sources told DallasHoopsJournal.com the move was not made in isolation," Afseth wrote.

"Internally, the Mavericks continue to see strong long-term potential in pairing Kyrie Irving with Cooper Flagg once Irving returns to the court."

Irving is yet to appear this season after suffering from a torn ACL in March last year.

Flagg has shown tremendous development recently for the Mavs. The reigning No. 1 pick is averaging a sizzling 39.7 points in 57.7 percent shooting with 10.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists in the last three games.

The Mavs are currently 12th in the West with a 19-31 record.
