Heat unwilling to trade anything of value for Ja Morant

The Miami Heat have been one of the primary destinations mentioned for Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant, who is on the trade block.

But NBA insider Jake Fischer threw cold water on the idea of Miami trading for Morant. He believes the Heat have been reluctant to include any of their promising young players in a deal for him.

"The Heat have not been willing to give anything of real consequence or real value to the Grizzlies," Fischer said. "No one really has."

The market for Morant is unclear ahead of Thursday's trade deadline. Fischer mentioned the Sacramento Kings and Milwaukee Bucks as two teams to keep an eye on, but said the Kings are also unlikely.

"The Kings have continued to signal that they are not a team in the mix for Ja Morant," Fischer said. "The Grizzlies have thought they would be."

Fischer said the Grizzlies have "dramatically dropped" their asking price for Morant. He said it's likely the return for Morant will be similar to what the Atlanta Hawks received for Trae Young, who they traded to the Washington Wizards last month.

"It is more likely than not that Ja Morant will be exiting Memphis in a deal very similar to Trae Young's departure from Atlanta," he said. "The Grizzlies are not going to be getting plus value."

The trade will be an unceremonious end to Morant's time in Memphis. He's been the face of the franchise since being drafted in 2019. But the team is headed in a new direction after sending Jaren Jackson Jr. to the Utah Jazz on Tuesday.
