Sergej Jakirovic has revealed how Lewis Koumas was one of his top transfer targets in the summer, explaining how delighted he is to sign the Liverpool youngster.
Koumas opted to join Birmingham City back in the summer, when City were slapped with a transfer fee ban by the EFL, but after a mixed first half of the campaign, he linked up with the Tigers late last month.
His impact was immediate, coming off the bench and scoring four minutes later to seal a 1-0 win at Blackburn Rovers last Saturday in front of a big away following, and then made his home debut off the bench on Tuesday night in City's goalless draw with Watford.
Toby Collyer, like Koumas, was also targeted in the summer before he joined West Brom and then arrived before the weekend visit to Ewood Park. Jakirovic says he understands why the Welsh international winger decided to go to St Andrew's rather than the MKM Stadium at the beginning of the season.

“He’s Liverpool school, he’s a Liverpool winger, when I saw him in the summer, he was my wish, but he chose Birmingham," Jakirovic told Hull Live.
“This is normal, in that situation, you can choose a club in a better situation. But there is no ego from my side, I respect every player’s decision but now when we had the opportunity to take him I said immediately we must take him.
“He’s so young, such big potential with a lot of experience in this league and especially in the January transfer period, there is no adaptation and I think he helps us.
“I think he can help us a lot. He’s a young player but he played in Stoke, now in Birmingham and this is the reason we took him immediately. I think he can improve this group a lot.”
