'I can say': Alexis Mac Allister's dad has a message for Liverpool fans about his son after Real Madrid rumours

Alexis Mac Allister has faced some backlash from Liverpool supporters this season after suffering an alarming dip in form.

The Argentine had been a model of consistency during his first two years as a Red but has struggled to get going during what has been a difficult campaign.

So, when fresh rumours emerged on Wednesday that Mac Allister is attracting interest from Real Madrid, many may have greeted the whisperings with a shrug of the shoulders.

The 27-year-old is still one of Arne Slot’s key players, but with two years left on his Liverpool contract at the end of the season, there is a decision to be made this summer.

If Mac Allister can get back to his best there is no question that he is an asset to the Reds, though, and according to his father Carlos, the No. 10 is still very much happy on Merseyside.

Alexis Mac Allister is happy at Liverpool

Mac Allister’s dad has always spoken positively about his son’s relationship with Liverpool despite continued murmurings of a move to Spain.

And while talking to Egyptian outlet WinWin, the former Argentina international once again reiterated how happy Alexis is with the Reds.

“What I can say at the moment is that Alexis is focused on Liverpool and the current season,” he said.

“Alexis is very happy and very comfortable with Liverpool.”

While the ‘current season’ line does open the door for further speculation, it is clear that Mac Allister is still enjoying his time with the Reds. Although that does not rule out a future exit, it should provide some comfort for those hoping to see the former Brighton man stay.

Will Mac Allister really leave Liverpool?

There is no question that this summer will be a crucial one in determining exactly how long Mac Allister stays at Liverpool.

For now, there is no concrete evidence to suggest that Real Madrid are plotting a move for the World Cup winner, but there is clearly interest there to some degree.

What’s more concerning is that no movement on a new contract has been made from the Liverpool end.

There have been plenty of suggestions that the Reds are in discussions with both Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch over contract extensions, but things are much more quiet with Mac Allister, whose deal expires at the same time.

If negotiations do ramp up heading into the summer and beyond, it will suggest that Mac Allister is here to stay, but if things continue to tick along without progress, there is a chance he could leave either this summer or in 2027.
