Liverpool have made an enquiry over the potential signing of Roma right-back Zeki Celik, according to a new update from journalist Marco Conterio.
The Reds haven’t been helped by injuries this season, with injuries to the likes of Alexander Isak and Giovanni Leoni out of action for long periods.
Right-back is also proving to be a problem position for Liverpool currently, with Arne Slot having to make do without Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley.
Even Joe Gomez is missing, with the centre-back capable of filling in as a full-back, meaning Dominik Szoboszlai is likely to start at right-back at home to Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
According to Conterio on X, Liverpool are among the clubs to have enquired about Roma ace Celik, seeing him as an option in the summer transfer window:
“Roma must make its renewal offer to Zeki Celik: the Turkhas given priority to the renewal and to the yellow-and-red club, but he already has more than one inquiry. Among these is also Liverpool.”
Would Celik be a shrewd signing by Liverpool?
The fact that Bradley could even be missing for the whole of 2026 with a serious knee injury means a new right-back needs to be considered key business by Liverpool this summer.
In Celik, the Reds would be signing an experienced head who is now 28 years of age – one who has been hailed by Vincenzo Montella in the past:
“He’s the perfect player for any coach. Celik is professional, reliable, does his job wherever you play him. In a locker room it is always needed to have guys like him.”
Celik is a one-time Ligue 1 champion, winning the title with Lille back in 2020/21, so he knows how to succeed at the top level, and he is also a 58-cap Turkey international, scoring three goals for his country along the way.
He can play as a centre-back, too, which could appeal to Michael Edwards, Richard Hughes and Slot, giving Liverpool more depth in defence at a time when Ibrahima Konate’s Anfield future continues to be in doubt.
