The Reds head into the encounter sixth in the table, with Champions League qualification for next season the main aim. But after a 6-0 thrashing of Qarabag was followed up by a 4-1 triumph over Newcastle United, Arne Slot will be hoping that his side can finally build momentum.
Slot has had depleted defensive options, with Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni (both knee) ruled out for the rest of the season. In addition, Jeremie Frimpong is sidelined because of a groin problem and Joe Gomez has missed the past two games with a hip problem.
Gomez’s problem has not been deemed serious. He could be back to face City at Anfield on Sunday (16.30 GMT) but will not start.
Slot said at his pre-match press conference: “Jeremie will definitely not train this week. With Joe, we have a bit of hope he might train tomorrow or Saturday. Not available to start but maybe available to help the team.”
