'Big talent': Arne Slot issues first words on Jeremy Jacquet as he makes feelings on FSG transfer policy clear

Liverpool will be out for revenge when they welcome Manchester City to Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds were thumped 3-0 by Man City in a Premier League meeting at the Etihad Stadium earlier this year.

In the months since, the Sky Blues have remained in the title race, while Liverpool have declined and there has been pressure on Arne Slot.

But the Merseyside outfit have experienced a slight upturn in form over the last week or so, beating Qarabag 6-0 and Newcastle United 4-1.

Sunday’s game will, however, prove the biggest test Slot and co. have faced for some time.

Arne Slot shares Jeremy Jacquet verdict

Ahead of what is expected to be a tough tie, the Dutchman spoke to the media on Thursday morning.

Slot discussed a number of topics in his presser, including commenting on Jeremy Jacquet.

Liverpool signed Jacquet on transfer Deadline Day, but he will not move to England until after the 2025/26 season is over.

Speaking about the centre-back ahead of Man City, Slot was quick to praise FSG’s transfer policy of targeting young players.

He said: “First of all, he’s a very big talent, and maybe more than only a talent because obviously we speak about talent because of his age, of course.

“Second of all, because we were not the only ones interested. So, another big compliment for the people working every single day so hard to sign players, that we were able to sign such a big talent. Another example of the model we are using at this club.

“Young, very talented players, sometimes in the start of their careers, sometimes a few years into their career. But always players that are young and can improve us, and help us for the short, but definitely also for the long term.

“We’ve signed a lot of them recently, and I’ve said many times, the mid to long-term future of this club, but even the short-term, is in a very, very good place.

Rumour Gary Lineker heard about Arne Slot looks untrue

While Slot seems pleased with Jacquet’s arrival, Liverpool did not end up signing a single senior player to feature in the remainder of 2025/26.

This, of course, comes with the Reds having a number of long-term absentees and no fit right-backs to call upon last time out.

Previously, there had been a suggestion mooted by Gary Lineker that Slot and Richard Hughes had fallen out.

But after the manager praised the impact of the club’s transfer team for signing a player like Jacquet, that doesn’t look to have been the case.
