"It was just magical" - Mikel Arteta reacts to Arsenal reaching Carabao Cup final

After a six-year wait during Mikel Arteta’s tenure, Arsenal have the chance to lift silverware in a final.

The journey of falling just short as bridesmaids and 'nearly men' made the unbridled reaction throughout the Arsenal ranks at the final whistle all the more sweeter.

Arteta gleefully reflected on the semi-final victory rounded off by a late Kai Havertz winner: "We are so happy. I think overall, over the last two games, we deserved to go through.

"It was a long match, we expected that, we wrapped it up at the end in a beautiful way, with Kai [Havertz] scoring the goal in the manner that he did and the reaction from the crowd.

"The starters, the finishers, the staff, it was just magical. So I'm really happy because it was a really tough match against a great opponent and we're in Wembley."

A sense of relief from the expectation or simply the joy pouring out given the near misses Arsenal have endured in their hoodoo of making finals.

The Arsenal boss added, "It's the best vitamins that we can put in our bodies because we're playing every three days.

"But the fact that you work so hard to achieve those moments and to have these moments together, it's just magical, because you can see the joy, the smile, the energy in the dressing room and everybody who works at the club."

With Chelsea’s only defeat in the formative stages of Liam Rosenior’s time in charge coming against the Gunners at Stamford Bridge, they approached the reverse fixture of the semi-final differently.

A new setup perhaps threw a curveball in Arsenal’s plans to continue where they left off and cruise out of sight. The Blues even attempted to negate Arsenal’s threat from corners when they sent three players to sit on the halfway line.

A cagey affair of the teams trying to outwit one another until Chelsea were expectedly forced to up the ante and commit bodies forwards, bidding to send the tie into extra-time.

Kai Havertz’s stoppage-time winner was Arsenal’s second shot on target of the game and encapsulated how Arsenal were comfortable in trusting their immaculate defence.

Arteta reflected on adjusting to Chelsea's changes: "We knew that we were going to have to play a lot of games within that game. Especially because right from the beginning, they changed the set-up and they played in a different way.

"We were going to have to be very flexible and smart using the bench and the adjustments that we had to make.

"It's true that we haven't really conceded anything; we only created I think three or four chances. Two big chances before the goal, and the margins were going to be small because they are a really good side."
