Free agent Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is in reportedly in advanced negotiations over a move to Celtic and is poised to sign on the dotted line.

The England cap was weighing up his options after leaving Besiktas last summer and has been training with Arsenal in recent months. But the 32-year-old appears to have been convinced to join the Glasgow giants by boss Martin O'Neill.

Talks between the club and the player have rapidly advanced with an agreement' with Celtic attempting to rush the deal through before Thursday's Europa League squad deadline. The deadline to face Stuttgart is Thursday night – two weeks out from the first leg at Parkhead on February 19.

Sky Sports report that the Scottish champions are now 'confident" of getting a deal over the line. A medical has been booked and could be completed on Thursday to beat the UEFA deadline if the final details of a contract are ironed out.

O'Neill spoke honestly about talks with Oxlade-Chamberlain in a Sky Sports interview with Chris Sutton on Tuesday.

He said of Oxlade-Chamberlain: "He's working down on his training at Arsenal at this moment.

"Arsenal may even offer him a contract. I was astonished that it hadn't been picked up. He was talking about the difficulties out in Turkey. But someone of that sort of experience would be great.

"It may still happen because he's out of contract."

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta had also left the door open for a short-term contract. When asked about the prospect of a deal, he said: “We explore every option.”
