Gabby Agbonlahor has opened up and claimed that Chelsea should have signed Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen over Liam Delap, who has failed to impress during his time at Stamford Bridge.
Delap turned down an approach from Manchester United to sign for CHELSEA for £30million last summer, but has not made the impact that many would have liked as the big striker has scored two goals in 21 appearances in all competitions, with injuries and the form of Joao Pedro limiting his game time even further this season.
And after his struggling performance against Arsenal in the Carabao cup, former Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor believes that his move to Chelsea is not working and Chelsea should have signed long-term target Osimhen.
Osimhen is regarded as one of the best finishers in the game, and Chelsea were heavily keen on bringing him to the Premier League before he completed a loan move, and then permanent move to Turkish football.
‘No, this isn’t working,’ he told TalkSport. ‘I said when he joined Chelsea that I thought he should hav gone to a team like Everton.
‘Develop there for a couple of years and then make the big move to top-six side. I think the jump from Ipswich to Chelsea was too much.
‘When I look at him as a striker, I like him – he can hold up the ball well, he’s a good finisher, but he just doesn’t look sharp enough for the top level of the Premier League.
‘Someone like [Victor] Osimhen was the striker they should have gone out and got.’
IcFootballnews Says…
CHELSEA signed Delap because they believed they could turn him into a big superstar, a man that could score 20 goals a season, but it ha snot worked out yet and he is really struggling to make an impact.
We would not be shocked to see him leave Chelsea in the summer, there are a few options for him to make, and the Blues need to sign a proven striker that can actually score goals at the highest level.
