With victories on back-to-back nights against the Washington Wizards and Denver Nuggets, the New York Knicks have now overtaken the Charlotte Hornets for the longest current winning streak in the NBA (eight games).
That said, their most recent win didn't come easy. New York went back-and-forth with Denver throughout Wednesday night's victory, ultimately earning a seven-point win in double overtime.
Jalen Brunson led the way with one of his strongest performances of the year, scoring 42 points to go along with nine assists, eight rebounds and two steals.
Karl-Anthony Towns also provided an efficient night after an injury scare, finishing with 24 points on 9-for-13 shooting to go along with 12 rebounds. Not only is Towns leading the NBA with 11.9 rebounds per game, his double-double Wednesday night pushed him into the lead with the most double-doubles this season. Jalen Johnson of the Atlanta Hawks is the next closest.
Following the game, Brunson spoke about Towns' return following a collision with Nuggets' forward Spencer Jones. "He came back with a vengeance and played great. Played tough."
Despite their impressive form as of late, New York will be tested with a difficult schedule upcoming. In the next six games, the Knicks are scheduled to face five top-five teams in their respective conferences.
They'll face the conference-leading Detroit Pistons twice as well as the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers away from home. Lastly, they'll finish the difficult swing against Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets, currently fourth in the Western Conference.
