Report: Chelsea to make decision on £35m star's future this year with Tosin Adarabioyo also in danger

On paper, Chelsea are certainly not short on numbers in central defence, with Tosin Adarabioyo being one option at Liam Rosenior’s disposal.

As well as Adarabioyo, Rosenior also has Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Josh Acheampong and Mamadou Sarr in his squad.

Sarr was recently recalled from his loan at Strasbourg, giving his manager another option for what is left of the season.

When Levi Colwill returns from his ACL injury, the 22-year-old is another centre-back Rosenior will be able to call upon.

Chelsea to decide the futures of Benoit Badiashile and Tosin Adarabioyo later in the year

In total, that is seven central defenders currently at Chelsea, though that list could be trimmed down in the near future.

According to TEAMtalk, the club will make decisions on the futures of both Badiashile and Adarabioyo later this year.

It means both men could be sold in the summer, which would make sense. Rosenior cannot keep seven centre-halves happy, while Chelsea are still being linked with players in that position.

For example, it has been reported that Chelsea remain keen on Murillo after showing interest in the Nottingham Forest man in 2025.

If he arrives, at least one of Badiashile, who signed for the Blues from AS Monaco in a £35m deal, Adarabioyo or someone else will definitely have to depart Stamford Bridge.

When Tosin Adarabioyo could return from injury

Since arriving at Chelsea from Monaco, Badiashile has picked up numerous injuries. However, he is currently fit, whereas Adarabioyo has been on the sidelines in recent games.

The good news is that Adarabioyo could return for Chelsea versus Leeds United next week. The 28-year-old will be hoping to feature and make a positive impact in order to convince Rosenior that he is good enough to play for the club.

Before that, though, Chelsea face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux. With Wesley Fofana playing during the week, Badiashile could get the nod to start alongside Trevoh Chalobah as Rosenior manages the ex-Leicester City star’s minutes.
