Tottenham Hotspur have now reached a full agreement with Esporte Clube Bahi, part of the Manchester City group of clubs, for Alejo Véliz. However, the striker will only move in the middle of the year.
Reports from Brazil say the deal is done. Bahia and Tottenham agreed terms, and the Argentine forward will sign a five-year contract. Presumably that would be directly with Bahia, but it wouldn’t be unheard of for him to sign with another member of the Manchester City group of clubs.
Savinho is a good example of such transfers not always being as they seem. The Brazilian was assigned to Troyes but never made an appearance for them, moving to Manchester City in 2024. Tottenham have since tried to sign him.
Alejo Véliz and Tottenham had to get timing right
The key point is timing. Véliz will stay at Rosario Central until his current loan ends.
That detail brings clarity after weeks of uncertainty. Instead of forcing an expensive January exit, all parties chose to respect the loan and complete the move later in the season.
As a result, Bahia have reshaped their plans for this window. With Véliz already secured for the summer, the club continue to look for another striker. This search focuses on a short-term option with low financial impact.
Bahia are part of the City Football Group and operate as Manchester City’s satellite club in Brazil, fitting into the group’s wider multi-club strategy across different leagues and markets.
For Tottenham, the picture also settles. The club have an agreement in place and no longer face pressure in January. The situation moves from negotiation to execution, with the transfer scheduled for mid-year.
The 22-year-old will have been sold a growth path which could take him elsewhere within the group.
In short, the noise has faded. The deal exists, the timeline is clear, and Alejo Véliz’s future appears settled, just not immediately.
