The Golden State Warriors remain cautiously optimistic that if the Milwaukee Bucks do not trade Giannis Antetokounmpo by the February 5 deadline, talks could be revisited in the summer, according to Nick Friedell of The Athletic.
Earlier, The Athletic's Sam Amick reported that there had been "an extended lack of communication from the Milwaukee side in recent days," which left the Warriors – along with several other teams – skeptical that Antetokounmpo would actually be moved.
That sentiment reportedly persisted late Wednesday night.
Friedell noted that the prevailing belief within the Golden State front office is that Milwaukee does not appear ready to part with the franchise cornerstone around whom the organization has been built.
If the Warriors were to wait until after June's draft, they could strengthen a potential offer by including their 2026 and 2027 first-round picks, giving the Bucks additional short-term assets.
Meanwhile, the Warriors, Miami Heat, and Minnesota Timberwolves are still viewed as the primary teams actively pursuing Giannis ahead of Thursday's trade deadline.
