The Golden State Warriors will most likely lean toward keeping Kristaps Porzingis for the longer term after trading for him last night.
Golden State Warriors / Schedule
According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, the Warriors' trade for Porzingis could be a long-term move, with the team potentially looking to extend his contract, which expires this summer.
"This actually could be a longer-term play. It's possible they will re-sign Porzingis, and this is really as much about next year as it is about this year," Windhorst reported on ESPN's Get Up show.
The Warriors sent Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Kristaps Porzingis.
For the Warriors, Porzingis serves as a significant enforcer who will anchor the team for the second half of the season. But the Latvian star, who was initially acquired by the Hawks from the Boston Celtics last offseason, has struggled with health issues.
He played in just 17 of Atlanta's 52 games and has missed the team’s last 13 games due to an Achilles injury, averaging 17.1 points and 5.1 rebounds.
