Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards will be furious over latest Giannis Antetokounmpo trade news

The Minnesota Timberwolves threw their hat in the ring.

But in the end, it sounds like the dreams of a Giannis Antetokounmpo partnership with Anthony Edwards will remain dreams, at least for now with the NBA trade deadline arriving on Thursday afternoon.

ESPN's Shams Charania reported this about 12 noon ET:

"The Milwaukee Bucks have indicated to teams that they are keeping Giannis Antetokounmpo through the trade deadline and will start making other trades, sources tell ESPN."

That sounds like that about closes up shop.

The Timberwolves wanted Giannis. The Miami Heat were in on him. So were the Golden State Warriors.

For now, it sounds like Antetokounmpo is staying put.

He's hurt at the moment, and it's not clear when he'll return to the court for the Bucks.

But what is clear by midday Thursday, which wasn't earlier in the week, is that it doesn't seem Giannis will be playing for a different team this season.

The summer is a different story. More teams will have assets that can be moved to acquire Antetokounmpo. There still might be a trade in his future.

Edwards can still hold out hope of teaming up with Giannis down the road in a partnership that would be expected to compete for NBA titles.

For now, though, Edwards and the Wolves will have to figure it out with the group they've already got. Giannis, it appears, is off the market.
