Curtis Jones is not expected to sign a new contract at Liverpool and could leave the club this summer, according to journalist David Lynch.
The Reds have had a number of contract issues in recent seasons with key players, losing Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, while talks with Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah went on until the last minute before they agreed fresh terms.
The same situation is ongoing at the moment with both Andrew Robertson and Ibrahima Konate this year, with both players out of contract at the end of the season, and it seems like the trend may be about to continue with academy graduate Jones.
'Surprise' if Jones Signs New Liverpool Deal
Curtis Jones
Jones, who has been described as 'outstanding' and 'complete' by Arne Slot, was subject to interest from Inter Milan late in the January window, with the player agreeing to a loan move to the San Siro before the Anfield club blocked the move.
The England international is out of contract in 2027, and it has emerged that there have been limited talks about a new deal so far, although Slot admitted that he and the club were aware of the situation.
But when discussing the situation, journalist Lynch revealed that he would now be surprised to see the Liverpool-native sign a new deal with his boyhood club, and put the blame on the club for not doing more.
“I’ll almost be surprised now if he signs a new contract.
"This interest has got out there, and it is being clearly welcomed by the player. I just think it’s pretty terrible for Liverpool. He’s your only Scouser in the team now. You’ve developed him since he was seven or eight. Is there really not a world where you can give him a contract he’s happy with?”
Liverpool Mad to Let Jones Leave

Allowing Alexander-Arnold to leave was clearly not something that Liverpool wanted to do, but the player had made his mind up about an exit and they had to accept it.
But they have an opportunity with Jones to change that, because it's clear that the player would prefer to stay at his boyhood club and become a key player, and maybe even the captain one day.
It seems a relatively easy deal to do, and the player has plenty of upside to handing him fresh terms. Letting him go would be bonkers, and would surely make fans question the board even more, while also leaving academy stars wondering if a pathway truly exists.
