'A possibility, I think': Liverpool urged to re-sign 23 y/o to fix major problem for the summer

Liverpool have been urged to sign Jarell Quansah back after failing to replace him in the summer and, more recently, the winter transfer windows.

Virgil van Dijk has been largely excellent but the Dutchman has also had some games worth forgetting this season.

Ibrahima Konate has recently been a lot better but for most of the campaign, he has been one of the poorest performers in the Liverpool squad. His contract talks are not going well and it would be surprising if that is the reason for his poor displays this season.

Liverpool signing a new centre back must be a priority in the summer transfer window

After the defensive struggles Arne Slot has endured this season, it will no doubt be a priority for him to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

European football expert Andy Brassell claims that Liverpool need investment at centre-back this summer even in spite of signing Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes for £60m.

“I’m sure Liverpool will go out and buy another centre-back from here. They have to,” Brassell explained to talkSPORT.

“They really have to go out and buy a new centre-back from here because, depending on what happens with van Dijk, they can’t have van Dijk plus Jacquet and Leoni going into next season.

“They can’t do that. It leaves them too thin. So, they need to find someone.”

Should Liverpool consider a re-signing Jarell Quansah?

Brassel believes Liverpool should even assess whether or not Jarell Quansah could return to the club after leaving in the summer.

Quansah joined Bayer Leverkusen for a fee reported to be worth £34m. It has since been criticised as Liverpool did not replace him and were ultimately embarrassed on Deadline Day when Crystal Palace refused to sell them Marc Guehi.

Brassell added: “I wonder if at some point Jarell Quansah maybe comes back. I think that has to be a question as well.

“We’ve seen that before with players going out to the Bundesliga.

“Or do you even look at going way back, look at Dani Carvajal having his year in Leverkusen before going back to Real Madrid and becoming a Real Madrid legend. That’s always a possibility, I think.”

Having just signed Jeremy Jacquet for the summer, signing Quansah is only a conversation worth having if Konate leaves. Even then, there are better center halves more suited to Liverpool than Quansah.
