Josh Minott’s tenure with the Celtics has come to an end

Minott started 10 games for the Celtics, and at times appeared to have become an integral part of the rotation. On the season, he averaged 5.8 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, shooting 50.7% from the field and 44.2% from three.

The 23-year-old showed particular flashes of potential when he became a regular starter for the Celtics in November. During that span, he had several career nights — he tallied 21 points against the Washington Wizards in early November and seemed well on his way to a career season.

But, he fell out of the rotation in mid-December and seemed unlikely to regain a meaningful on-court opportunity this season. He was sidelined for most of January as he recovered from an ankle sprain.

Minott frequently expressed his appreciation for Boston, though his opportunities dwindled as the season progressed.

“I feel like all across the league, fans aren’t really at these games, or putting any importance on them,” Minott told CelticsBlog during preseason. “It’s usually just scattered around people, die-hard fans. But here it’s just like, man. The whole city, it just seems like everybody’s a die-hard fan.”

Ahead of the trade deadline, the Celtics have traded Anfernee Simons to the Chicago Bulls for Nikola Vucevic, sent Chris Boucher to the Utah Jazz, and Minott to the Nets. They also converted Amari Williams’ two-way contract to a standard deal.
