Warriors' new Giannis Antetokounmpo trade plan revealed by NBA Insider

The Golden Warriors aren’t acquiring Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo this season.

After the organization acquired Atlanta Hawks center Kristaps Porzingis in a Buddy Hield and Jonathan Kuminga-centered Wednesday deal, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes are finished for the seven-time NBA champions, at least for now.

A recent offseason report from The Athletic’s Nick Friedell reveals the Dubs’ new trade plan for Antetokounmpo.

“The good news for Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy is that roster limits are much looser in the summer,” Friedell wrote Thursday. “He could add more money in the short term in an attempt to make a deal happen. “

“Separately, if the Warriors wait until after the draft in June, they could potentially include their 2026 pick and their 2027 first-round picks to give the Bucks more assets in the short term.”

In other words, Golden State should be prepared to join the list of championship contenders who will be eager to acquire Antetokounmpo in the summer (the Los Angeles Lakers will be the Warriors’ biggest threat to steal the two-time MVP).

Of course, the Warriors' ultimate goal is to go the distance this season, with Stephen Curry and Porzingis leading the way.

Considering it will be challenging for Golden State to represent the Western Conference in the NBA Finals, it’s good news that the Warriors will have an offseason plan to help them get over the hump in 2026-27 and beyond.
